Notes:
The 6th annual Matchbox Toy Show, on June 6-27, attracted TV coverage, some 6,200 collectors and hundreds of exhibitors from all over the world who had Matchbox products for sale. The show took place at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in Hershey, pennsylvania, and it featured a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages.
The show attracted collectors and exhibotors from as far away as Australia and New Zealand. Collectors could design their own models, win prizes and admire the Mack b fire engine that was used to create the Matchbox Collectibles die-cast replica of the 1956 Mack B95 Pumper. There were games and surprises for the kids. And many families took the opportunity to visit Hershey Park with its rich variety of rides and amusements, including the "Fender Bender" ride, which is sponsered by Matchbox and has attracted over 5,000 guests in the past season.
Other collector highlights: Matchbox created a special Toy show model. It was a 1965 Mustang GT 1:64 scale replica. Only 3,600 were made, and all sold out by the end of the first day. On Friday night, Matchbox invited dealers and matchbox club members to a barbecue. And, at the dinner auction, which is also reserved for dealers and club members, a special 1:43 scale model of the 1940 Ford Pickup bearing the Matchbox Toy Show logo was given aeay free. Speaking of the auction, all proceeds are donated to charity.
Another exciting developement at the 1999 matchbox Toy show was the launch of two models that are being offered as internet exclusives in the United States. The Austin Powers' Star Car bus (limited to 5000 models) and a '55 Chevy tow truck featuring the Matchbox Collectibles logo on the side (edition limit:5000).
This model is a unique contribution to the tradition of collectibles and it is also a fine example of the intricate and authentic workmanship that distinguishes editions crafted by Matchbox Collectibles.
